The five-year-old gelding trained in Newmarket by Henry Spiller is entered in the Betfred "Racing's Biggest Supporter" Handicap on Newcastle's all-weather track tomorrow (Thursday), but will not take part at Newmarket on Saturday if the going is soft.

Europe's newest racecourse opens in Stockholm

Bro Park in Stockholm, Europe's newest racecourse, officially opens on Sunday, 19th June with a high-quality program featuring the Swedish 2,000 and 1,000 Guineas and an all-female international jockeys' challenge.
The state-of-the-art facility owned by the Swedish Racing Association will stage racing on turf and dirt, and replaces Taby Racecourse as the home of racing in the Swedish capital.
Bo Gillborg Director of Planning and Development said, "The price of land in the region has rocketed and Taby Racecourse was rapidly becoming a 'goldmine'. The facilities were in need of major renovation and it was obvious that the best value option was to realise the capital from the land and build a brand new facility from scratch.

Before joining Sky in 2003, Bevan worked as Engineering Support Manager at Orad UK, a real-time 3D graphics hardware/software company, responsible for the management of key customers across Europe. Prior to his time at Orad, he worked for the host broadcaster at the Sydney Olympic Games, having started his career at the Seven Network in Australia.

Stable staff will be saddling up to support the Starlight Children's Foundation at Newbury Racecourse tomorrow, Friday 13 May, by taking part in a unique charity event.
The Inter Stable Starlight Charity Race will follow an eight-race card under rules featuring the £30,000 Starlight Handicap, with the majority of the riders being full time stable-staff who do not currently hold a jockeys licence and who have each raised a minimum of £2,000 to take part.

Frankie Dettori, Jamie Spencer, Silvestre de Sousa and Emma-Jayne Wilson have been confirmed as team captains for the 2016 Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup; the world's premier international jockey's competition at Ascot Racecourse on Saturday 6th August.
2016 will also see a further increase in prize money with all six races now worth £45,000 (£40,000 last year). Each participant will get five rides as they bid to win the Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup for their team.
Last year saw the Girls team lift the trophy for the first time when they claimed three of the six races. Emma-Jayne Wilson, who captained them to victory, is back and will be joined by Michelle Payne from Australia, and Ireland's Cathy Gannon.

Higgins to step down

After more than 11 years at the helm of RaceTech, Chief Executive, Brad Higgins has decided to step down from its board with effect from 31st March 2016 in order to pursue other interests. Having recently succeeded in negotiating a renewal of the outside broadcast contract with Racecourse Media Group, servicing its 34 racecourses until December 2018, Higgins feels now is the right time to move on.
"It is with some sadness but with a great deal of optimism that I have tendered my resignation to the Board," he said.

Entries invited for £631,000 Scandinavian Challenge

A nine-race series for three-year-olds with prize money in excess of £630,000 has been created by the Swedish Jockey Club, in celebration of the 100th running of the Swedish Derby in July 2017, which closes on Monday, 14 March.
The prize fund for the historic 2,400m contest has doubled to more than £250,000, while supporting races in the series dubbed 'The Scandinavian Challenge' have all received significant increases.
All nine races will take place on the all-weather surface at Jagersro Racecourse in Malmo over three individual racedays, from mid-June to mid-August, with prize-money on offer topping seven million Swedish Krona (£630,000).

The ground-breaking agreement, which lasts until the end of March 2016 includes all Carnival meetings and culminates in the running of the world's richest horserace, the Dubai World Cup on Saturday, 26 March.
RMG, the holding company responsible for a range of media rights and management businesses involving 34 racecourses in the UK, will be offering racing from Dubai for the first time to customers in the region and access to the official pools, hosted by Isle of Man-based Premier Gateway International (PGI).

RaceTech secures new Racing UK contract

Investment in a new state-of-the-art High Definition outside broadcast unit and the refurbishment of existing equipment are to be among the benefits of a new contract between Racetech and Racecourse Media Group (RMG), parent company of Racing UK.
The contract will see RaceTech continue to provide OB services to leading horseracing channel, Racing UK, until at least the end of 2018.
Work on the new truck, which is expected to be in full commission by next spring, will begin immediately together with a phased programme to acquire new hoists, cameras, lenses and upgrade existing High Definition trucks and Standard Definition facilities.

A golden celebration for starting stalls

Newmarket's Moet & Chandon July Festival meeting marks an important milestone in racing's history this week when RaceTech celebrates the 50th anniversary of the introduction of starting stalls.
On 8 July 1965 Newmarket's Chesterfield Stakes, a race for two-year-olds and won by Track Spare ridden by Lester Piggott, made racing history by becoming the first horserace in Great Britain to be started from stalls.
After further tentative use at Newmarket during the remainder of the 1965 season, stalls were formally adopted as the fairest method of starting races on the Flat and were rolled-out across 135 racedays the following year.

The former is among a number of International horses that will now have their ratings re-assessed, having run since the original nominations, although all ratings will again be evaluated by the International Federation of Arabian Horse Racing Authorities (IFAHR)after the supplementary stage on 22 July.

A total of 60 nominations have been received for the £400,000 Group 1 Qatar International Stakes for Purebred Arabians, (formally listed as the Harwood International) the first leg of the inaugural Doha Triple Crown, which will be run on the final day of the Qatar Goodwood Festival on Saturday, 1 August.
Among those bidding to be the first to stake their claim on the Doha Triple Crown's $1 million bonus are Al Mourtajez and Al Majh'hoor, who finished first and third respectively in this year's HH The Emir's Sword, which in February 2016 will form the final leg of the contest following the €1 million Qatar Arabian World Cup at Longchamp in October.

The Al Basti Equiworld Classroom will allow Greatwood to expand its teaching programmes which are specially designed to educate disadvantaged children and develop life skills in young adults with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
The classroom at the Wiltshire-based charity was formally opened today by Arun Menon, General Manager of Al Basti Equiworld, the UAE's leading distributor of horse feeds, supplements and veterinary products which has funded the project. Al Basti Equiworld's contribution also extends to supporting the salary of a newly appointed teacher for the next three years.
